SANGHITA BANERJEE

POSTDOCTORAL FELLOW (BIOINFORMATICIAN)

I have an interest in endeavoring the crosstalk between cellular plasticity in intestinal epithelial tissue and gut microbiota in maintaining gut homeostasis. The intestinal epithelium has a complex anatomical structure and facilitates digestion, absorptive, as well as immunological and neuroendocrine functions. It is the fastest self-renewing tissue in mammals. My primary goal is to study the transcriptomic landscape of intestinal tissue regeneration, and how perturbations in the regeneration process might increase susceptibility to inflammatory bowel diseases, diarrhea, or colorectal cancer. I will work on generating a comprehensive transcriptomic landscape of the intestinal tissue during the reestablishment of homeostasis after damage using bulk RNA-sequencing, single cell RNA-sequencing, and spatial transcriptomics analysis.
