My main research interest is how the gut microbiota influences gut immunity in health and disease. During my master’s degree and Ph.D. I worked on how certain bacteria, i. e. Porphyromonas gingivalis and Fusobacterium nucleatum, affect invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cell activities in colon cancer using different mouse models and human primary iNKT cell lines. My goal at Villablanca Lab is to understand how certain lipid mediators produced by the gut microbiota are involved in intestinal physiology. For this, I will take advantage of zebrafish models of intestinal inflammation and regeneration, as well as intestinal organoids and mouse models of IBD.
