Environmental signals such as dietary components and pollutants significantly impact intestinal homeostasis. With background in toxicology, I did my master thesis investigating the immunomodulatory properties of perfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs), a persistent pollutant we are daily exposed to, in zebrafish models of intestinal inflammation. Currently, I am pursuing my PhD project in elucidating the role of the nuclear receptor Liver X Receptor in establishing mucosal immune responses oriented to maintain intestinal homeostasis.
